some say laughter is the best medicine. i was feeling a bit under the norm all week as i was contemplating what to do with my life. i was stressed from being unsure, coupled with some other personal stuff and work deadlines, i was not enjoying my first week back from hawaii. through my usual blog/ twitter surfing, i discovered a monthly comedy show, the super serious show, held at smashbox studios in culver city. not being able to find any excuses not to go, i determined that this would be a good way to relieve the tension that weighed on my shoulders.
free beer. i was notified of this significant tidbit after turning in my ticket to the ticket collector. excellent. double fisting a couple cups of crafted ale, i took my seat in the not so large room. everytime i attend a comedy show, i always have a fear that the comedian will single me out and start clowning on me. it was no different tonight.
the sklar brothers hosted the show (they played the twins that worked at ari’s company on entourage). other comedians included andrea savage, the new york smiths, and hampton yount, all of which were pretty funny. in between acts they had crazy random video shorts which slapped me in the face with a “wtf”, but make me chuckle. the suprise guest of the night was demetri martin. i was first introduced to martin a year or so ago and thought he was lame. his ultra dry one liners didnt tickle me. since then he’s been up and coming, starring in comedy central specials and whatnot, and that must have upped this act, as he was pretty damn funny.
i had a good time at the super serious show, as it wasnt so super serious, and it was a good way to let loose some steam. its a monthly show, so check it out!
